May 2001 - ROOM ? Is it really a good thing?
In our opinion the ROOM workflow has been oversold drastically and the industry
not been made aware of the problematic issues that it introduces.
ROOM stands for 'RIP Once, Output Many'
ROOM requires much more storage, more complex file
organization and eliminates otherwise attainable automation,
resulting in the necessity to handpick files.
It does not eliminate the human factor which is in most cases
reason for errors. ROOM solves certain problems but introduces new issues. When
storing several versions of the same job on a server, it is left to the operator
to decide and handpick which versions of the job are to be deleted and which
versions to be imaged.
The human factor can not be eliminated.
