Hugo Kristinsson was born in Reykjavik, Iceland and is a fully
qualified and experienced photo-lithographer who has been
professionally involved in printing and pre-press since 1978. For many
years he worked for one of Icelands biggest printing houses and for
Icelands biggest newspaper group. In 1985 he founded his own printing
and publishing organisation which he ran until 1993 prior to moving his
family to New Zealand. On arrival in New Zealand he performed the duties
of Information Technology Manager for a major national pre-press company
whilst specifying and developing AbsoluteProof. He founded Gimlé Limited
in 1999 as the organisation to own and market this first product and others
still in design. Over the years Hugo became somewhat expert at
colormatching and is now a fully licensed ICC profiler in order to support
Gimlés activities in this area.
Hugo has always followed new trends and has continuously operated in the
forefront of printing technology. With the advent of digital imaging Hugo
became frustrated at the cost, complexity and/or inferior quality of digital
proofing systems. Most of the software on the marked offered third party
RIP's and therefore did not deliver imagesetter RIP integrity. With the development of
international industry standards for colour management, Hugo set out to do
something about it.
|
The
objectives were: |
To achieve: |
|
Ease of Use |
Non-technical installation and
operation |
|
Affordability |
To
suit all prepress environments, small and large, A1, A2 and A3 versions |
|
Image accuracy |
True reflection of what
your imagesetter RIP reproduces and therefore what will be printed |
|
Perfect Colormatching |
True reflection of the colors
and tones being printed |
|
Adherence to the ICC Profiling
Standard |
Colour management to a true and
accurate industry colour standard |
|
Flexibility |
Capability to drive all main
wide format printers and PostScript devices |
|
Total Automation |
Automatic proofing using
imagesetter RIP output or any other output deposited in Hot Folder |
|
Resulting in: |
|
A visual image virtually
indistinguishable from the final printed article from the press |
|
A proof costing the user no
more than the consumables used |
|
The ability to do small jobs
directly on the digital printer without incurring the set-up cost of going
to press |
After two years of specification, design, management of development
resources and testing, culminating in a year's trial in 3 different fully
operational environments using prototypes under full working load, Hugo
had his first product - AbsoluteProof. During the course of the development
of AbsoluteProof, which was performed by our Christchurch based
software development Technical Division, Hugo has won the support of a
variety of organizations which recognized the importance of what was being
achieved. These organizations included Technology New Zealand, Trade
NZ, Canterbury Development Corporation and Business In The Community
(BITC). The product was proudly launched at the end of 2000 and the
market development programme began.

We are seeking distributors for Gimlé products throughout the world.
Distributors must have a good reputation in their existing dealings with the
prepress or print industry at present, be familiar with
Macintosh systems and have demonstration and first tier support facilities.
Ideally Gimlé's distributors should be competent licensed ICC profilers
but Gimlé Limited can assist those wishing to move into this lucrative business
activity or improve their skills in profiling.
The terms and conditions for distributing AbsoluteProof are currently extremely
favorable. The retail price of the one-off license fee for AbsoluteProof ranges from US$3.500
to US$7500.
Digital proofing is here to stay. It is inevitable that the printing and prepress
sectors will adopt the technology as soon as it is seen to be viable and
cost-effective. Gimlé's products are quite different
from the others in that they are very easy for the end user to operate,
affordable to purchase and run, preserve the integrity of the imagesetter RIP
and will drive any Epson, Roland or Hewlett Packard Wide Format printer
in addition to any PostScript printer. The quality produced by
AbsoluteProof is at least as good as specialised products costing many times
that of AbsoluteProof.
The ease of use and the quality of the output from AbsoluteProof has to be
seen to be believed. In fact, since we know that many printers have been put
off by the complexity of many other products, we are quite prepared to offer, through our distributors, a 30 day trial of
AbsoluteProof in the printers own working environment. Once the client is
convinced the demonstration program can be replaced by the full product
with an indefinite license in exchange for the one-off license fee.

We do not see that selling AbsoluteProof requires separate or additional
client calls to achieve sales; rather we see this as simply another product for
your existing sales force to sell during their normal visits to printers. Every
printer should be interested in significantly reducing their proof printing costs
without loss of quality.
One of AbsoluteProofs greatest strengths is that it has been designed by
the printing industry for the printing industry.
If you would like to receive a copy of AbsoluteProof to see whether it is a
product which meets your requirements and one which you would be
interested in distributing, please contact us and we can arrange a trial. We
are very confident that you will be most impressed with the ease of use of
AbsoluteProof and the quality attainable on your existing hardware. Our
distributorships are most favourable at present and the market is wide open;
distributors selling expensive specialised digital proofing programs will have
great difficulty competing unless they either decimate their prices or find
some other way to compete with AbsoluteProof.
